What makes a good reference photo for a portrait? 

I get this question all the time. Can you work with this photo? In an ideal world a high res digital image is best. This allows me to see all the details to capture the subject perfectly BUT we know this isn’t always possible. I can work from an old (film) photograph, but it is important to choose one that is well lit and you can see details within the subject. Feel free to email me a picture you are thinking of using as a reference photo. I can quickly tell you if it’s something that could work.  Don't forget to choose a photo that captures the subjects personality too!
